It makes you unable to summon. I dropped it, then I could summon, but after dropping it I didn't need to because the boss was much easier. Brian 5, 1 1 gold badge 23 23 silver badges 49 49 bronze badges. Artorias Artorias 1.

How To Summon Your Friends in Dark Souls 2
Featured on Meta. Community and Moderator guidelines for escalating issues via new response….Join VIP to remove all ads and videos. Summon and PvP range in Dark Souls 2 is calculated by soul memory. For example: a player with a soul memory of 45 million can invade a player with a soul memory of million, and vice versa. The Name-Engraved Ring reduces the soul memory required to invade and summon players in the "Top Tier".
Another thing to note is the Cracked Blue Eye Orb, a player in the Top Tier can invade downwards to 15 million, however the increased range of the blue eye orb will allow players to invade others who are in the 12 million - 15 million range a sort of pseudo top tier and vice versa a 12 million player can invade infinitely upwards. By part of doing PvP a player will increase his soul memory, eventually to the point that you will start getting matched with players at a much higher soul level.
Capping at does have a purpose though. If your intention is to participate in organised PvP events vs players at only, capping at can be for you, also if you want to only use the duel arena s. However if you want to be invaded by random players and invade random players, there is absolutely no reason to stop increasing your soul level, you will only weaken yourself in online play if you do not.
Skill does determine the winner of some fights, but if you were to remain at and consistently increased your soul memory and say, managed to make it past 15 million The Top Tierthen you will find yourself facing players with soul levels in the hundreds, with 40 in all stats, or higher. However if one wishes to maintain a focused build there is no reason to continue increasing ones Soul Level.
Spending them does not add to this total amount, merely earning souls add to this total amount, period. Collecting consumable items that grant souls upon use does not increase your Soul Memory.
Using those items however will increase your Soul Memory. How are the ranges calculated? Soul Memory is divided into tiers, but the tiers are not hard boundaries.
Instead, different multiplayer items extend across different amounts of neighboring tiers. So there's no direct math involved, it's a question of A What tier am I in? The Tiers Here is a list of the tiers. Bolded values in the left column indicate an increase in tier size.

Therefore, it is recommended that you limit the amount of bandwidth usage to allow a proper online multiplayer experience when playing Dark Souls II.
You will occasionally see a bloodstain on the ground. When you stand on it, you can activate it. Doing so will replay the last few seconds of another player's life at that location, ending with their death.
The death usually does not take place at the actual bloodstain, similar to how your own bloodstain is usually not precisely where you actually died but rather where you were several moments before.
The replay shows the slain player as a phantom, but does not show any other aspect of their death such as what specifically killed them unless the phantom falls off a cliff or the like.
However, much can be inferred from the replay, including possible nearby computer enemies that may be in ambush, or if PvP invaders are particularly active in the area typically when the phantom is repeatedly circling and attacking, and then backstabbed or slain in only a few hits. Playing while being connected to the internet will cause images of other players to appear. Unlike in Dark Souls they are distinct at all times allowing you to see what weapons they are wielding, their armor, even if they are using items.
These phantoms allow the player to know how active an area is since these phantoms seem to be appearing somewhat real time you might see the same phantom twice doing the exact same things, and you might see a summon sign, and a light blue phantom putting it down afterwards. One cannot interact with them but you may move through them since the other players are not really in your world.
If killed they will even be seen dying before completely vanishing, this will possibly lead to a bloodstain being left nearby. Seeing these phantoms the player can get some solace in the fact that other people are going through the same strife and troubles that they are personally facing. Near bonfires and only near themthe above phantoms of other players may appear more distinct and visible than elsewhere in the game, showing all of their equipment and even whether they are in human form or not.
Seeing other people resting at the same bonfire helps players realize that these people are probably facing the same challenges. Testing suggests you are also more likely to see distinct phantoms of those players at or very close to your own level, giving you a helpful sense of how active the area is at your level if you wish to place a summon sign at that bonfire, or look for signs to summon help.
Players can burn a Human Effigy at a bonfire to prevent multiplayer activity in that area.If you're finding the challenge of Dark Souls 2 just a little too challenging, then you can always make use of the game's summoning system. Do so, and you'll be able to call on the help of a fellow adventurer to do battle against the worst of the world's creatures together. Likewise, if you're feeling charitable, you can make yourself available to help other players.
Not only will you get a warm, fuzzy feeling for helping someone out of a hole, you'll also get some very tasty rewards for doing so. If you've really come a cropper, and you want to invite a random player into your world, then you just need to keep your eyes peeled for the markers that are left lying around the world. Note that you'll need to be in Human form to be able to see these signs. As a general rule, you can expect to find these co-op markers just outside the misty gates that bosses lurk behind, or at bonfires.
These latter markers tend to suggest the person who left the sign is interested in clearing out the entire area with you, rather than tackling a particular boss.
You're not just restricted to having a single assistant help you through a sticky patch either. You can summon a maximum of two additional players into your world, and while the bosses get a bit tougher for each additional player you summon, you should find that the additional damage or grouping capabilities afforded through co-op play more than compensate for a deeper health pool.
If you're feeling philanthropic and want to help someone struggling with a section of the game, you're going to have to get your hands on something called a White Soapstone. There are a couple of places where you can get hold of these items, but once you have one equipped you'll be able to lay down signs indicating your availability to help others. The first of these stones can be found in Forest of Fallen Giants, and is given to you by a character called Pate.
You can find him just beyond the ballista room, and once you've exhausted his dialogue options he'll open up a gate for you. Walk through it, follow the path, and then drop back down as soon as you're able to start chatting to him again. Just be aware that you'll have to deal with nearly a dozen enemies as you follow this path around. Use the item in your inventory to lay your marker down wherever you want it to be and then wait to be summoned.
When that happens, you'll be summoned into another world after a few minutes of waiting. Should you kill a boss while in your new-found Phantom form, you'll be rewarded with a large dollop of bonus souls, a Token of Fidelity which allows you to join the Blue Sentinels, and you'll also be returned to Human form when you return home.
The other method of making yourself available is to gain the alternative stone known as the Small White Soapstone. To get this item, you're first going to need to kill the Last Giant, and then make your way over to the Cardinal Tower bonfire in Forest of Fallen Giants.
Go directly upstairs from the bonfire, and then use the key to open the door. Inside you'll find a chest which contains the item.
The sign this Soapstone produces is - as you'd expect - a little smaller than that produced by the Large variety, and you'll also be summoned only temporarily into a new player's world as something called a Shade. Defeat a boss in this form and you'll be rewarded with a Smooth and Silky Stone, have your souls replenished, and also be restored to Human form.
Those are the non-Covenant methods for assisting other players, then, but if you're really feeling generous of spirit, you could consider joining the Heirs to the Sun.
Complete co-operative sessions while a member of this faction, and you'll be rewarded with Sunlight Medals. Bag enough of them and you'll be able to get some powerful armour from the Covenant quartermaster as your collection increases. Before talking about the basics of working together, it's important to make sure that you're ready to start fighting the moment you make yourself available for co-op. The person doing the summoning might have been invaded, for example, or they may have accidentally attracted the attention of a nearby monster or boss.
Never assume that you'll have time to tinker around with equipment and inventories when you arrive in another game - always assume the worst.
